3D Printable MTG Tokens
A simple process for creating and 3D printing tokens for playing Magic: The Gathering

A long time ago, I used to collect Magic: The Gathering cards and play with one of my cousins. I recently picked up the hobby again, and was playing a deck that had several lands similar to the following:

That's great if you only have one or two in play, but by the time you get 3 or 4 of them, keeping track of what mana you said each was supposed to be can become a challenge.
The same issue can arise if you have cards that give other creatures abilities like deathstrike, lifelink, etc.

Since I have a 3D printer, I figured I'd try making some tokens that have a mana or ability symbol to help me keep everything straight.
Creating an SVG
I wanted to match the mana icons and MTG Arena symbols as close as possible, and came across these resources
- Set Icons (first)
- Set Icons (second)
- Abilities, Counters, Etc
- Mana symbols
Starting with those, I utilized Inkscape to capture the individual mana symbols and create a larger token SVG from the abilities I wanted

Creating a Model
Next, I imported the SVG into FreeCAD and performed a combination of extrusions with cuts and unions to create the desired tokens (more FreeCAD posts & tutorials will be coming in the future!). Once completed, I exported the results as .stl files.

Print the Tokens
Finally, I imported the .stl files into Luban, painted the surface to utilize different colors for the base and raised surfaces, and started the print on my Snapmaker Artisan.

Overall, I think they turned out alright. If you're interested in the stl files, they're available here.
